SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed-to-be University, one of the premier Universities of Higher Studies in India, has completed 27 years of its existence in the year 2008-09. NMIMS established in the year 1981 as Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, began its journey by offering a masters degree program in management studies, a course of the University of Mumbai with an intake of only 40 students and 4 full time faculties. Today, NMIMS is one of the fastest growing and the top, private University in the country. It has undergone a tremendous transformation since its commencement. The University of Mumbai laid the foundation of NMIMS by ordering it's set up to meet the growing demand for young managers. The parent body, Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal was among the first educational trusts to have realized this need and further the interests of aspiring management candidates and also meet the needs of the challenging world of business. Based on the recommendations of the UGC and All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, has accorded Deemed to be University Status to NMIMS in January 2003. Also, the University has taken an initiative to address the needs of different sectors and launched sectorial specific PG programmes like MBA (Retail Management), MBA (Pharmaceuticals Management), MBA (Services Management), MBA (Global Business), MBA (Actuarial Science), MBA (Capital Markets) and MBA (Banking). The institute has 40,000 square feet of built-up area. The classrooms, the seminar and the conference halls have been fully air - conditioned for long hours of teaching and interactive participation with a spacious well - planned campus.
